Insecure Season 2 EP 4 “Hella LA” Review
Did you hear that Insecure is getting a 3rd season!? Yes I’m super excited for the writers and the entire cast, but before we can discuss a 3rd season I have to first make it through the 2nd season. So much went down on episode 4. I’m starting to wonder will our characters ever get it together. I’ve even reflected on my own past break ups and I start to wonder if I was ever this out of control and confused. This may have been the most intense episode and everything happened in just one day. And if this is a typical day in LA, I'm not sure if I should be trying to live there (lol). We have so much to recap and I honestly didn't know where to even start. Let’s talk all about Episode 4 “Hella LA”.
Get Ready
Issa is single and ready to mingle, Molly is feeling herself, and its Kelly's cheat day. With the whole gang ready for a "Lit" evening things are sure to get out of hand. In the opening scenes for episode 4 "Hella LA" we watch our characters pre game and get ready for an annual party called Kiss N Grind, and based off the name alone its only right that the atmosphere is hot and heavy. At this point in Issa and Lawrence's break up its every man is for themselves. As the hurt finally begins to go away for Issa, you can see her main goal is to keep it that way. The saying goes "The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else" and that's exactly what our main characters are showing us to be true. With a potential new smash partner waiting for her at the event and the thought of all the other guys she's willing and ready to meet, and lets not forget her new "neighbor boo", Issa is building a roaster and loving living single.
Not too far away Lawrence is also gigging in the mirror at his new place as he prepares for a night as a single and free man. Last week Lawrence was officially dismissed from his rebound Tasha and from the looks of it that's what he wanted all along. Lawrence's confidence was killed after being cheated on, but after he saw he still had the juice (enough to be invited to a family BBQ) he wiped his hands of an almost serious relationship, signed a lease for his own spot, and of course hit up his boy Chad to hit the streets. Although I'm happy that Lawrence is finally being honest with himself about where his heart truly is right now, and Issa is not sitting home waiting by the phone any longer, I'm scared for the decisions they both will make with their new found freedom.
Kiss N Grind N Living Single
Sometimes you can be too ready that you end up falling flat on your face. Other times it can be just too freaking much and you don't know what to do. In the case for this particular night its was a combination of both. Shortly after arriving at Kiss N Grind Issa sees what she views as the reason her life is what it is right now. Yes Daniel was sitting in the flesh. If your memory has left you, Daniel is the chocolate dream Issa cheated on Lawrence with last season. Issa even went as far as telling the man he was just a itch she needed to scratch. I mean she went in on him and hasn't seen him since. That is until now. With her vibe now being completely blown she is left with two choices. Sneak around the party all night or just make her presence known and enjoy her evening.
Issa is the Queen of awkward and is great for making shit worst than it has to be, so she chooses not only making her presence known, but she engages in a full blown conversation. Daniel seems chill and not really bothered by their past while Issa on the other hand stumbles over her words trying to apologize. With confronting Daniel out of the way, Issa goes back to being her turnt up and single self. Happy that she finally gets to meet her new online prospect Felix, Issa heads outside the party to wait. But things went the exact opposite of how anyone wants a first meeting to go. He was not impressed and far from interested. He disliked her appearance and voice and left faster than he arrived. I guess Living single is not all its cracked up to be.
Back inside Molly catches up with her longtime friend Dro and things get way more than friendly. The two went from a harmless dance battle to a full blown grind session to the hood classic "Slow Motion" by Juvenile. I guess Molly not getting any all season made her forget for a split second that Dro is a very married man. Reality set in that 5 grinds in and Molly stopped and exited the dance floor, but according to Dro he is in a open marriage and is ready to put it down on Molly. Open relationships can be too much for outsiders looking in. Right now Molly has been on track and to fall off and smash a married childhood friend is far from all the progression she's made this season. Don't do it home girl!
Three’s Company
Remember earlier when I said "I'm scared for the decisions they both will make with their new found freedom." Lately it seems like the best thing for both Issa and Lawrence is to just be back together. Its clear neither of them can handle being alone. Last episode it was Issa sleeping with the random from her apartment. Now Lawrence has found a way to topped that. Lawrence's night of fun with Chad was cut before it could even begin. While he was buying drinks for the turn up he discovered that he had no money on him to cover the cost. Just a Dumb Dumb in is pocket. I guess it was Dumb Dumb's lucky day because behind him in line were two chicks who paid his $50 tab, but he didn't get off that easy. Lawrence ended up canceling his plans with Chad to go back to the crib with his new strange yet giving friends to return the favor by sharing his free drinks.
Come on Lawrence. Are men really that naive and easy to seduce? Liquor, weed, and a confused soul just don't mix. I guess sleeping with one girl can become too serious but after the right about of liquid courage and very aggressive females a threesome right up Lawrence's alley. With a white girl on top of him and an Asian girl on his face, its safe to say Lawrence has lost his damn mind! How low do you have to be to have a threesome with absolute strangers? I'm not one to judge but this is Lawrence we are talking about. This is the good guy right? I guess he is just spreading his single wings and trying to fly.
After disappointing the crew buy not having enough juice to spread around (It ain't no fun if the homie cant have none) it doesn't take long for Lawrence to learn he was just a mouse in a game these chicks play often. No he is not a player because he just got played. Lawrence was just a new Black Guy notch on these hoes belt and they were making plans over coke (Not the drink either) to go party and eat before Lawrence could even get out the bed. With embarrassment disgust written all over his face Lawrence lies to Chad over the phone about how much fun he had. The whole time he was sitting out side Issa's place. I guess single life is not treating him so well.
Settle
What I like most about this episode is that unlike all the others, everything that happened was in one day. Lawrence ended his night feeling completely used. He felt so bad he even found himself outside of Issa's apartment. But his night is not the only one that ended in disappointment and pure confusion. Issa ran into an ex who was the last person she wanted to see, didn't get any new numbers, and was totally dissed by her internet meet up. Molly was thrown for an entire loop when her boy Dro not only told her that the relationship he has with his wife, that she loved and admired from the outside was open but also he was ready and willing to have sex with her. Kelly was the only one who came and did what she set out to do. Which was turn up and have fun. She even met a new boo in the process.
The girls went to get something to eat with Kelly and her new "Sweetie". Conveniently Daniel and his crew was sitting right across from Issa. After finding out Kelly was getting Finger Friendly with her new boo, Issa took the insider between her and Daniel as a icebreaker and sat next to him. I guess at this point if your Ex don't want you and you have 0 luck at meeting someone new, why not settle for the guy you cheated with in the first place. Right?
As for Molly she almost got caught up humping a married man. Dro reached out wanting to come over but Molly's mind over powered the drought her cootie feels and she texted back she was tired. The question is will she stick to her guns? A guy she already knows, who's already involved so there will be no pressure, and he is technically not cheating might be right up her alley right now. Not saying that its right, but who's saying that its wrong if his wife cool with it. I just don't think my heart can take anymore threesomes this season. Let's see what going to happen episode 5.
